(Franklin County, 1869-1952) Emma Guy Cromwell began her political career when elected by the Senate as state librarian in 1896. In 1924, she successfully campaigned for, and was elected, Secretary of State, making her the first woman elected to statewide office in Kentucky. In 1927 she was the first woman elected state treasures and later appointed state parks director in 1932. She chronicled her years in politics in a book, Woman in Politics.
